Cashew Production in the world
Global cashew production (planted) in 2020/2021 totalled 836,940 metric tons (convert Raw Cashew nuts to kernel basis), over 3.8 million tons of raw cashew nuts. Côte d’Ivoire remains Western Africa’s largest producer country, with a crop of 180,000 metric tons (kernel basis). India production was estimated at 165,840 MT, followed by Vietnam with 103,500 MT. Tanzania leads production in Eastern Africa, with a crop estimated at 48,400 MT
Cashew Exports to targeted market
Vietnam was the leading exporter of cashew kernels, due to its large processing facilities, accounting for 65% of global exports in 2019, followed by India with 11%, also largest consuming country in the world.
The major export markets for Vietnamese kernels were the United States, the European Union + the United Kingdom and China, accounting for 34%, 29% and 16% of the country’s share respectively. The Middle East (41%, mostly the UAE and Saudi Arabia), the EU+UK (31%) and Japan (11%) were India’s top markets.
From the 1.8 million metric tons of raw cashew nuts (RCN) exported in 2019, Vietnam imported 1.1 million MT, the bulk of which came from Western Africa (65%), South Eastern Asia (20%) and Eastern Africa (12%). Similarly, India imported 628,198 MT, with 94% coming from Western Africa
